John Mitchell was the
infant son of Charles Roark Mitchell
and Sarah C. Baker, born abt. 1857
in Marion County, Arkansas.
John Mitchell is believed to be the child mentioned
in Dan MacFarland's account of the Massacre - "I have said that all of the
small children were put into the wagons; that was wrong, for one little
child, about 6 months old, was carried in its father's arms, and it was
killed by the same bullet that entered its father's breast. It was shot
through the head." John Mitchell, along with both of his parents, and his
paternal uncle Joel Dyer Mitchell, died in
the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre. He was the grandson of
Captain John Twitty Baker, who also died
in the Massacre.
