THE CHILDREN OF LORENZO DOW & NANCY JANE (WHARTON) DUNLAP

 *VICTIMS OF THE 1857 MOUNTAIN  MEADOWS MASSACRE*
 


Thomas Jesse Dunlap was the oldest son of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born 20 February 1840 in Arkansas. He, along with his parents, and 5 of his 7 younger siblings, were killed on 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. He was 17 years old when he died.

John H. Dunlap was the second son of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born 26 February 1841 in Louisiana (according to the 1850 census). He, along with his parents, and 5 of his 7 siblings, were killed on 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. He was 16 years old when he died.

JOHN H. DUNLAP, 16

Mary Ann Dunlap was the oldest daughter of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born 10 January 1844 in Arkansas. She, along with her parents, and 5 of her 7 siblings, were killed on 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. She was 13 years old when she died.

MARY ANN DUNLAP, 13

Talitha Emaline Dunlap was the second daughter of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born 17 December 1845 in Arkansas. She, along with her parents, and 5 of her 7 siblings, were killed on 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. She was 11 years old when she died.

TALITHA EMALINE DUNLAP, 11

Nancy Dunlap was the third daughter of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born abt. 1847 in Arkansas. For some unknown reason, her birthdate does not seem to have been recorded with those of her siblings. She is believed to have died, along with her parents, and 5 of her 7 siblings, in the 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. She was 9 years old when she died.

America Jane Dunlap was the fourth daughter of Lorenzo Dow Dunlap and Nancy Jane Wharton, born 12 April 1850 in Arkansas. She, along with her parents, and 5 of her 7 siblings, were killed on 11 September 1857 in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. She was 7 years old when she died.

Please note that the names of the victims of the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre that appear here are those who we have personally researched and verified as actual victims. In some cases this list will differ from the names that were inscribed on the 1990 Monument on Dan Sill Hill.
